This is an experimental thread just to see how this idea works. It's inspired by talk in >>13509
, so this thread isn't enforced but your participation, if interested, should be noted. Feel free to edit this post if you are a moderator if there are any revisions that should be made.
Whenever you have any sort of game you're looking to play with someone, just post it here. This isn't for a mod-sanctioned gamenight as that something they'll sticky, just if you want to play any sort of game. There are three reasons as to why I think this is a good idea:
>to prevent game threads being filled with posts of no substance like "Anyone playing?" and "I'm hosting now please join,"
>to reduce the creation rate of threads about the same game,
>and so that people don't have to create a new thread for everything they want to play.
As to what constitutes the need for a separate thread is something I trust you should be able to judge, but it's probably best to keep in mind the complexity of the setup and the number of people estimated to show up based on interest. This thread is intended to be cyclical because the posts that should be in this thread should only be relevant for a short period of time. Any discussion about hosting troubles should be moved to the game's own thread as that information can be easily archived.
The format of the post is something expected to evolve over time into something uniform, which should make non-applicable posts in the thread easy to filter or Ctrl + F. I don't have a proposal as to how it should look at the moment, but I do think its important it at least contains the platform, the game intended to be hosted/played, identifying account or server names if necessary, the time at which you intend to host/play
, any extraneous information such as voice chat invitations and whatnot, and a quote link to the thread of the game if your game is in the catalog.
I know there already exists threads with similar subjects, but they don't intend on being cyclical like this one so I don't want to derail those.

Half Life 1 is overrated
Half Life 1 is an overly long game with repetitive levels/filler throughout and sub-par shooting (not HL2 levels of bad shooting mind but the gunplay is at best unsatisfying and on hard just spongey enemies). The supposedly amazing marine AI is 90% hardcoding grenade throws and the like + voice lines that have no bearing on what they're actually doing so they seem smarter. There are a lot of weird TECHNOLOGY features like alien-specific AI that, while neat, you'll rarely even see and won't have any effect on your actual experience playing the game. Xen was actually a good way to freshen up the end of the game after endless bland/grey corridors.
You could cut out at least 1/3rd of the entire game and improve the overall experience without losing anything but filler. Much of the game is just walking down grey corridors fighting the same group of 2-3 enemies to flip a switch and while that's true of many classic FPS games they at least had some difficulty, competently designed shooting mechanics and enemy variety to keep it interesting.

I didn't see one in the catalog, so I decided to make it.
I've been replaying New Vegas and I'm always surprised at how well it holds up. The writing is good enough to hang a bunch of mods around. I've done this before, so I have a good collection on my computer, but I followed this guide and added some of my shit on top of it: https://www.sinitargaming.com/nv.html
Having IWS and Factions Reloaded, along with other patrol mods really make for a dynamic wasteland. I'm playing a "noncombatant" with 0 in all my combat skills, and I'm fully geared towards fixing shit, talking to people, and making stimpacks. She's also a half-ghoul who sympathizes with the Followers, because she's too nice for her own good.
One day I'll get around to replaying Fallout 2. I don't think I've beaten it in about 10 years or so.

Lineage II Classic - Rapid Expansion edition
COME PLAY A RARE VARIETY OF MMO THAT'S (MOSTLY) NOT SHIT WITH US
>What is it?
The product of Richard Garriott's and NCSoft's efforts back in 2003. Base game was locked behind a subscription and contained only a limited amount of content, but as time went on, this was remedied through expansion packs. At one point in a development process, the game's balance was fucked up VERY hard, so the consensus between what players there are left is that it's better to play on earlier versions of the game. We are playing on a Classic version of the game, which close to base game as it was released, but not quite.
Server, in which we're playing right now is infested with Brazillians, Chinese and Russians, as it is often the case with free MMOs.
>Why play this? Everybody knows that all theme park MMOs are dogshit and EVE is boomer central/spreadsheet simulator/goonhive.
This game is rather unique in that while the base game is a themepark MMO, it forces people to play together to survive in the vast wilderness of the grinding fields - killing people and getting killed in turn is very easy if you have shit gear for your level and even with good gear it is still easy. Every death is a static -4% EXP penalty and on the later levels, generic monsters will only give out around 0.05% of your EXP bar. Quests are more or less useless in that regard, so fast-paced party grinding is the order of the day.
Top spots for grinding and money-making on top levels, however, are usually strictly occupied by powerful clans leveling in big parties that will kill you and take no prisoners in order to rake gigantic amounts of money in materials and make their +10 overenchanted staves into +12 ones. Some of them are not unreasonable and/or Brazillian and can be negotiated with, however. With proper funding made from excessive amounts of grind, it is possible for anons to gather one big party and apply copious amounts of strategy to find out ways to better kill the enemy without dying ourselves. The last part is as far as we got before the clan fell apart because I had to quit because of IRL issues and things died to attrition. Luckily, things have been getting better since then.
Even so, it's fun to grind things together and kill other fags together.
>Shieet nigga, how does the game work?
Download a client, make an account on the server - feel free to use temporary e-mail, it doesn't care - make a character and play the game. Using the wiki will be more or less required to learn specific mob loot tables and how to complete class transfer quests. After making a character, either post the IGN in the thread or level to 20 to escape the spam filter and whisper to one of the fags in the clan that can invite you.
If you want to find out what each class is good at in advance, below are some helpful links to the skill lists. Take note that wiki is not exactly completely accurate because this server is running a slightly different version of Classic from the official one.
- get the game and register here
- game wiki
- skill descriptions
We're playing Classic Club, one of the only servers where L2 is acceptable these days. Other servers either feature a heavy amount of P2W bullshit, have plain higher EXP rates which causes server's cancer population to intensify tenfold or go overboard with something else. Either way, this freeshard seemed to be the best option at the time. There's no indication of server's location, but it does offer multiple proxy servers in the connection menu.
Server runs a Lineage II Classic variation - for all intents and purposes it's C1 with some stuff from C2 added on like Alligator Island and Zaken. Multiboxing is locked behind getting a premium account (which doesn't give anything else other than a cosmetic), which could, potentially, be bought for in-game money - around ~20m for a month or so (we already have a buffer character with a Premium Account ready to help if anyone asks). The game has an in-built auction house system, which is really glorified server-owned RMT bullshit. It is more or less tolerable though because in this game great numbers + good gear > poor numbers + greatest gear possible.
ADENA: x2 (amount)
DROP: x1 (chance)
SPOIL: x1 (chance) x1 (amount)
QUEST: x2 (xp/adena)
Raid Bosses: x1 (chance)
With the efforts of a cake bunker thread combined with (some) help from 8kum thread, the clan, which has sat on a resting point of zero activity-wise has graciously revived. There are at least five people active online (almost) every day. Consider joining in and playing with us. We have resources to support anyone that wants to stick around (emphasis on stick around, plenty of people quit and took expensive gear with them in the past) and gear is pretty expensive.
Our clan has a 10% EXP boost skill and a mana regen skill at level one. There's also a (previously mentioned) buffer alt to help anyone that wants to grind. Add WATERHOSE, MasterRace, Snacks, Illiniza or any of the other clan members to friends list for an invite - use /friendinvite PLAYERNAME in the chat for this.
The only rule here is not to RMT under any circumstances.
>what character do I make?
Whatever the fuck you want, though any non-melee characters (with the exception of summoners that aren't Dark Elf and bowmen) will be really hard to level and grinding is already a problem. Below are useful general explanations for every possible class that you can make.
If there's any further questions about the game, just ask. Thread will be semi-regularly updated with screenshots of our progress.

Guide to a happy Share Thread
1. Before requesting, search online and even use distributed search engines e.g.InfraSearch,Opencola,YaCy,FAROO. See below for famous links.
2. Look first in the archives and volafile.
3. Be as specific as possible. If you have the cover art of the file you want, post it in both the share thread and in vola room.
4. Due to asshats in the thread, links to files will be purposely misleading (have spaces, lines, keys&passwords split in the post),including torrent hashes.
If you see a string of characters (e.g. c12fe1c06bba254a9dc9f519b335aa7c1367a88a) with or without dashes, it is a magnet link.
If your bittorrent is shit, prepend magnet:?xt=urn:btih: to the string.
a. Find and Replace (sed/tr/awk) is your friend.
1. When in doubt;upload, ask questions later.
2. Upload to many alternative sources (5+) and keep a local copy if space permits.
3. Use a URL shorterner (spaced or split) and/or paste relinks (e.g zerobin.net) on file links to confuse bots.
4. Encrypt your uploads now with a password, key, or generator.Rename the files something random, even their checksums.Maybe even pad files to the nearest GB or so,to confuse bots.
5. If your connection is stable,it is extremely advisable to self host. Using anonymity tools like Freenet,I2P,Gnunet,distributed NNTP or MixMinion/Mixmaster.
1. Before uploading a batch of miscellaneous files,e.g images and music be sure they are unique enough to stand on their own and that you ask
for the majority's the consensus whether to upload the files individually.
2. Vola room owner edit- Upload 5 files and then zip the rest if the dump is larger then 6-7 files. Music Albums exceeding 5 files are to be
zipped. When uploading .torrent, either add them to the a zip of the game or just don’t upload those misc files.Properly label files so that they
can be identified without asking someone else. For lewd stuff with filenames like RJ74765 either add a .txt linking to the contents on a website or just add the title to the .txt e.g "BIG BOOTY WOMEN SIT ON SHOTA FACE (RJ34734)".
3. You can filter files by file type (.txt, .rar, etc) or search the file list with the bar hidden by the filter files button.
a. When in doubt, archive as a single [or split if too large],then upload.

Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
I've tested the multiplayer and it does work. It's easy to set up if you follow the guide.
ARE YOU READY OPERATORS?
What is this?
It's fucking Raven Shield, the last good Rainbow Six game and arguably
the best tacticool shooter ever made.
Arguably? Is it better than SWAT 4?
For one thing, Raven Shield came out two years before SWAT 4, so there are clear quality of life differences. I haven't played much of the multiplayer as it's dead, but some differences in design include:
>in coop, players can get three AI squadmates that you can order around like SWAT in singleplayer with far less options
>these AI squadmates can be changes to any time and act as "lives," meaning that if you die you can still continue playing by switching to a squadmate
>doors and leaning are variable
>map design is larger and therefore friendlier to long range options like assault rifles and snipers
>the TTK is far lower and you will get one-shotted with heavy armor
>greater weapon variety and customization than the vanilla game
>only armor determines movement speed
>no less-than-lethal options outside of CS gas
The biggest changes are how the campaigns play, which I will get into later.
Sounds fun, what do I need?
I'm glad you like it. Unfortunately, this game is a bitch to find, so I don't have a magnet link. Anonfile, while claiming they support up to 20gb, seems to have trouble beyond 1gb.

Iron Wrath: https://www.moddb.com/games/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-3-raven-shield/downloads/rainbow-six-3-iron-wrath-manual-installation
The single-player is less of a shooter and more of a puzzle. The premise of game is that a neo-fascist organization that is a direct successor to the Nazis is being funded by hidden Nazi capital moved out of Europe before the end of WWII and Team Rainbow, an elite special operations unit formed by international agreement, is tasked with combating this menace so long as they don't end up killing themselves first by entering a confused jumble when someone other than the leader has to throw a frag grenade only for said operator to throw said frag grenade at themselves and kill everyone. The first part of the game involves a careful planning process, where you select up to eight operators out of thirty or so, accounting their strengths and weaknesses, their equipment, and their rank a squad. You have up to three squads that will follow whatever plan is developed. Planning involves putting a series of waypoints on a level's map for the operators to follow. The second phase of the game is a first person shooter where you fail to execute the plan you spent two hours developing. If you want a tip as to how to develop a good plan, just make sure that you pay attention to operator aptitudes and loadouts. It's also good to design plans to accommodate switching operators and don't make it overly complex as to confuse the AI. The planning will not be as satisfying as you want it to be. As to what you can do with your squad, it's mostly just pointing them in the right direction and occasionally having them clear a room. It's that kind of game that provides a lot of great moments if treated like a lady.
I have heard of a few gameplay mods for the AI. I haven't tried them out, but if the game feels too weird and yet nothing else scratches that itch, you may want to check them out.

Who else plays direct connect multiplayer (any game)? Maybe we can get games going if the issue of IP addresses isn't prohibitive.
I've been looking for a direct connect community for Diablo II, but almost everyone that plays the game either plays closed battle.net or joins community servers instead. Pic is something I cube crafted since I literally never seen a Jah rune before in all my 300 hours of playtime.

Essentials Chart Working Thread #2
To fix this chart. Current WIP version is picrelated. Old thread here >>9633
Mostly RPG but other minor changes.
>Moved Clive Barker's Undying in from Horror
>Cut Bioshock 2
Also Metroid Prime went to Action-Adventure.
>Cut Half Life 2 nobody spoke up for it when I asked
>Cut Shenmue a game nobody likes as much when they've actually played it and again nobody objected, object now if you want
>Moved Metroid Prime Trilogy in from FPS
>Moved New Vegas in from Hybrid-RPG
>Added Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
>Added Divinity: Original Sin II if there's something else in the series fags would prefer speak up. I know some consider OS and OSII weaker outside of coop
>Added The Age of Decadence another game that might just seem good compared to what else came out around the same time
>Added The Temple of Elemental Evil
>Added Ultima VII
>Cut KotR 1 2 is just outright superior anyway
To some degree I'm throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks here with everything that's been suggested and then some other stuff too. Weakest entries are Age of Decedance more like a CYOA game than a great RPG
and ToEE great combat system, poor everything else
so they're candidates for getting cut.
Also Darklands might have a unique setting but it's arguably one of the weaker of the older games here.
Renamed to Hybrid RPG. Autism successfully increased.
>Moved M&B Warband in from ARPG
>Made EYE doublewide.
Can shrink EYE back down if fags can think of something else to add here or move in from another RPG category.
>Cut Kingdom Hearts speak up if you want it to stay
>Cut Diablo II since we have Grim Dawn
>Cut Gothic since Gothic II is there skub if II is outright better also II vs NotR I know
>Cut Risen since Gothic and II are generally better overall
>Cut Ys: The Ark of Napishitm we've got two other games in the series and it was this or Origin
With this it's down to two rows which it should stay limited to as RPGs in general have grown pretty majorly.
>Moved Diablo in from ARPG
>Added Pool of Radiance
>Added Wizardry VII
>Added Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky if that's the wrong one I blame that other anon for being vague
Now there's one game too many again.
I guess a M&M or Wizardry should go, or maybe Grimoire since it's hard to say if it's truly great or just good compared to other new games.
Or alternatively I could just put Daggerfall back into RPG next to Morrowind. It's more of a dungeon crawler but it's borderline enough it'd work. Then we have to cut another RPG though.
Third alternative is to just use a screenshot of Grimoire's main menu which includes the logo and would look better than the wide logo anyway.
>Cut Superstar Saga
>Replaced Secret of Mana with Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana
We've got room for three more JRPGs.
If I've forgotten someone's suggestion from the last thread now's the time to mention it again make sure it's an actual JRPG not a nip-made ARPG
Alternatively we cut 4-5 games from JRPG and it loses a row
which would be preferable since it's so large.
I'll put Shadowrun: Dragonfall into the TBT section later.
One anon wanted Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir in ARPG, if so we need to pick a game to remove (or anon can nominate one). If we can pick another Ys to go then perhaps that.
If Kingdom Come is going in is it RPG or ARPG and is it worth knocking a game out?
Next version I'll try and jiggle FPS around to get Tribes 2 in.
Is there any other RPG game already on the chart or in general that's worthy of inclusion that's a hybrid with another genre?

>"I never suggested we were halfway done, core systems are a great foundation for a game but most of the work is content development which we were critically behind in, both in real assets and in tool support for an efficient pipeline.
So basically, a sequel to a masterpiece we all know would have failed essentially got canceled. Good riddance.

Sketchful: Return to Normalcy
New Sketchful thread created because I feel like it.
I know I didn't start a game this weekend but I'll make it up by starting one tomorrow (Monday, February 17th) at approximately 6 PM CST. Mark your calendars!
I'm hoping this time we get enough attention garnered so that we won't have to resort to advertising on 8koon.

Worst game you ever played
What is the worst game you have ever played? No meme shit like Halo or Fallout 76. Actual bad games.
Her story, Gone Home, Dragon's lair on the NES, Night trap or Mortal Kombat 2 in the arcade tier.
For those who don't know MK2's AI is completely broken and reads inputs then immediately counters anything you do unless you do 1 loop which tricks the AI into letting you hit it, then repeating over and over. This makes the game unplayable unless you want to exploit that loop from match 3 onwards. It's also unavoidable as the difficulty switch is broken and it will always hit max difficulty half way up the ladder no matter if you set it to easy.

New Wurm Unlimited server coming soon-ish
For those who aren't lurking 8glow, a new Wurm server is currently undergoing preparations and should be operational within six months. While this is a large time frame, the server still being in development means that discussion now will have great influence on how it turns out. The intended map has been linked. Here's his OP, it's a bit barren but make what you will out of it and posting about your experiences on previous/current servers will certainly help:
>it's an experimental server including the new sindusk wyvernmods release
>I have a preliminary writeup for the server here including mods and settings: https://pastebin.com/2jEp2Bvf
>server is still in development hell regarding testing all the various shit that needs to be quality tested. i'll make a thread beforehand when the server is going to go live.
>add in some overworld points of interest
>revisit mod settings for conflicts
>investigate tower chaining bullshit and how to turn it on/off
>place faction spawns
If you're new
Wurm is a first-person survival game made by Notch and friends before he left to work on Minecraft. It has heavy emphasis on town building and cooperative play and, with mods, is in-depth enough that I'd describe it as Dwarf Fortress from the perspective of a dwarf. Each player has a number of skills that follow logarithmic growth, meaning that skillgain slows down the higher your skills is. It also means that you have to heavily depend on others like how it is in real life. There are farmers, woodcutters, carpenters, miners, blacksmiths, cooks, breeders, priests, bricklayers, stone carvers and so on, with some of these having a number of subskills that you will likely not be able to specialize all of. It's possible to survive by yourself, but to thrive, you need a community or be a botting faggot. It's not just a single community, either. I know previous servers incorporated other communities like 4chan, Reddit, and various other smaller forums, though 8chan always had the strongest presence as that's how niche it is. It's an experiment in societal development and an experience that has yet to be replicated adequately by any other multiplayer game.

Co-op Spotlight: Monster Hunter PSP
I had this thread on vch for about two weeks now and have posted about it in the Monster Hunter general here, but now that vch has devolved into shitposting now that it's shutting down I think it's time for it to come here. I'm aware that there's a Monster Hunter general, but I feel that this will de-rail that thread. If there ends up being a similar thread on 8kun about this, just know that it isn't me. In this thread, my hope is that it remains focused on Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd.
>Monster Hunter on the PSP? I don't have one of those!
Fortunately, PSP emulation is fantastic, being able to run easily even on smartphones. With a little know-how, you should also be able to get multiplayer working.
>So what do I need then?
All you need is a computer, PPSSPP, the necessary ISOs, access to your router, and a gamepad preferably.
>Why Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd?
Both these games are the easiest to run and configure for multiplayer. In regards to Portable 3rd, it only has a partial English translation as it was never released outside of Japan. It's the one recommended for beginning the franchise with even if you can't read it all as its a little less clunky, far prettier, and has some quality of life changes to make organization and management easier. If you do start with this and can't read Japanese, though, you will be wanting to check the wiki for and asking for help in this thread to explain certain things.
A more detailed explanation is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FAeZ83cX7HCiyNvRYGvlzYmOMVEXDxRMkQp5HM5YlG4/pub,
just ignore the stuff about coldbird. Here's a more compressed explanation:
The default settings in the most recent release of PPSSPP should be enough, but just make sure that you have networking enabled, the ad hoc server is myneighborsushicat.com
, port offset is zero, and that the virtual MAC address has been randomized, which you can do by clicking on it a few times. PPSSPP should also have a firewall exemption.
The more challenging aspect is that you will most likely have to configure your router for the online component to work, but it's still fairly easy to get working The game relies on a peer-to-peer network; the ad hoc server works similarly to a torrent tracker, in that it merely facilitates these connections. You'll have to log into your router, which can be done by putting 192.168.1.1 into your browser. You'll want to either enable DMZ, which I don't know about so don't ask me, or forward UDP port 10000 and TCP ports 20001 to 20004 to whatever internal IP address is assigned to your computer/smartphone.
The only option within the game itself is whether you manually or automatically select the room you want to join. Set this to manual, which it should be by default.
PPSSPP (most recent release): https://ppsspp.org/
Freedom Unite: https://coolrom.com.au/roms/psp/45589/Monster_Hunter_Freedom_Unite.php
Portable 3rd HD Version (ROT13):
'''PSID Files (ROT13): #S!41juQWOP!brTPhiuGV2N3j3f5-g2h6N
The two games I linked are the best co-operative games, but the PSP also has Monster Hunter Freedom
and Monster Hunter Freedom 2
. The former is the PSP version of the original game, while the latter is the the same as Freedom Unite but with less content. Neither of these games are as good cooperatively as the ones I have linked.
>X can host, but I cant!
You probably didn't forward your ports correctly. Check 'em.
>I used to be able to connect, but now I can't!
Check what internal IP address is assigned to your computer. If you are port forwarding and your router reset, it may have reassigned you a different one.
>I loaded a savestate and now I can't get back in!
Restart the emulator. That should clear things up.
>I can't connect at all!
Use a packet analyzer like Wireshark and add the filter
udp.port == 10000 || tcp.dstport >= 20001 and tcp.dstport <= 20004
to see if you're connecting to the IP addresses of other players at all. It's also advised to turn off your VPN if you have one as that might interfere. If you want a more detailed explanation of the ports, check the following link.
>I can't get Portable 3rd to start!
It's an anti-piracy measure I think, so you might need to drop these PSID files in you PAUTH folder, which is under memstick in your PPSSPP directory. I don't know which one decodes P3rd, but you can just dump everything in.
>I have Portable 3rd, but I can't play with others!
Make sure you use the version I have linked. This is the HD version of the game for PS3, which isn't linked anywhere else that can be found reasonably.
>I can't choose which room I want to join!
Go into the options and change it from Automatic to Manual.

Hey guys, did you know?
Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, Vaporeon are an average of 3 foot 3 inches tall and 63.9 pounds. This means they're large enough to be able to handle human dicks, and with their impressive base stats for HP and access to acid armor, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there's no doubt in my mind that an aroused Vaporeon would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore. They also learn the moves Attract, Baby-Doll Eyes, Captivate, Charm and Tail Whip along with not having fur to hide nipples, so it'd be incredibly easy for one to get you in the mood. With their abilities Water Absorb and Hydration, they can easily recover from fatigue with enough water. No other Pokémon comes closes with this level of compatibility. Also, fun fact, if you pull out enough, you can make your Vaporeon turn white. Vaporeon is literally built for human dick. Ungodly defense stat + high HP pool + Acid armor means it can take cock all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more.

The "HBO Series of Games" is turning 1 next month
Believe it or not, this game continues to be supported by Bioware with the most recent patch being from a week ago. So far, however, the game has had only one major content update about six months ago in August. I've never played this game nor any of its competitors, but the game currently has under 100 viewers on Twitch and the amount of engagement on their subreddit has had a massive decline since release. When do you think EA will finally pull the plug and are these super expensive live support games the future?

ME3 and ME:Andromeda designer teaming up with Bethesda artfag for shit vidya about niggers
That's right, we're getting the quality of Bioware and Bethesda in one game, with TV shows and movie adaptions already planned. Are you ready for diversity?
>The original name for Manveer Heir's new game studio that focused on stories of people of color was Big Mouth Games.
>But it turned out Netflix was already using the name "Big Mouth" for its animated puberty comedy. So Heir called the studio BrAss Lion Entertainment, and brought on co-founders Rashad Redic and Bryna Dabby Smith. The studio has an explicit focus on telling authentic underrepresented stories not just relating to race, but age, religion, sexuality, Heir said. It aims not to be another small indie outfit, but a mainstream, mid-level, million-copies-sold kind of game developer. "I don't have enough time on this earth to wait for 2,000, 5,000 copies [sold] to shift things," said Heir.
>The first game from Brass Lion is Corner Wolves -- an action-RPG set in mid-90s Harlem, in the thick of the government's war on drugs. The plot weaves hip hop, dealers and police, inspired by films like Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, said Heir. Producer Just Blaze is signed on for the soundtrack, while Heir wants to include landmarks of the neighborhood, like Marcus Garvey Park and the Apollo Theater.
>The protagonist of the game is a young Afro-Latina woman whose father is murdered. Neither Heir nor writer Evan Narcisse is Afro-Latina. So the plan is to workshop their writing with this demographic -- what bachata tracks would play in the streets, what posters would appear on a New York bedroom wall in that era in. Heir says they will look to real historical events in New York and Latinx history to weave into the narrative.
>In Corner Wolves, the idea will be to use RPG mechanics to simulate systems of oppression in interesting ways.
>"I'm a systems and gameplay designer, right? So I think about the world in systems," said Heir. "The racism I care about changing is systemic."
>For example, perhaps depending on your name, hairstyle or skin tone, people will talk to you differently. Perhaps you need money and can either work a boring, Shenmue-esque job for minimum wage in a racist environment, or choose to make 10 times the amount running drugs for people that you feel respect you more.
>The trick is that in games you have "complicity through interaction," Heir said. You have to own your actions in the world in a way that even watching a show like The Wire -- which itself excelled at humanizing its subjects and fleshing out the systems that led them to make damaging decisions -- does not do.
>The Corner Wolves game will be in development for years, but a narrative podcast introducing the characters and setting is due to launch this year on Luminary. Heir said he has ideas for comics, TV and film that could revolve around the Corner Wolves franchise, even while the game is its keystone.
>"My goal is that an Activision, an EA, have to build units that compete with me, because [now they] need a minority-focused studio," said Heir. "And hopefully I'll still beat them afterwards because they won't know how to do it right, and I will."

Connecting to player characters
My favorite kind of player character is someone you can connect with, not in the storyfag "I can relate to this character" way but in the sense that your actions as the player fit and interpret whoever you're playing as. Doomguy is almost a player avatar but still shows a personality which fits what you're doing, and Mario is vague enough that you can do all kinds of shit in his games and still be in character. This gets harder when games aim for more complex characters and storylines, and this connection usually gets thrown out the window pretty fast in favor of non-vidya storyfag shit. I guess there's also games where the player character is an ideal you connect with by getting gud, like Dante or Ryu from Ninja Gaiden.
Have you played any games which handle this player connection/interpretation thing well even with more complex characters? The big one that's coming to my mind now is Deus Ex and I wouldn't call J.C. Denton nuanced, fun as he is.

Good video game videos and articles
ITT we post actual good videos and articles about video games and try to sift through the mountains of """content""" that has ruined most people's ability to find something that isn't a soy grimace or a nu-Let's Play. No e-celebs, no surrogate friends - just good examples of people discussing the history, technology, and/or design of video games.
>old school Let's Plays where the LPer actually knows the game and informs the viewer about its history as the series progresses
>technical breakdowns/history videos
>testimony by people who actually worked on famous games
>game analysis videos that do more than parrot "ludonarrative dissonance" and which aren't just background noise
The main reason I wanted to make this thread is to preserve stuff like this, because no-one ever notices when small channels delete their videos. I was reading an old archived thread from 8chan /v/, and one of the anons there had made a couple of analysis videos. On a whim, I decided to rewatch them only to discover that he had unlisted the videos. GOOD Spiritual Successors - Modern Day Ripoffs to Dormant Series
Basically, I got curious and wanted to know if there's more games that copy practically everything about IPs that haven't seen a sequel and likely never will in a long time, except they're made by indie developers with a completely new IP that is a clear homage to the original. I'll give you some examples of what I mean:
Pizza Tower, which is a Wario Land clone without lives and an emphasis on speed and getting a high rank
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, obviously Castlevania
FAST RMX, F-Zero without the comic book characters
Do you know of any more of them that are actually passable-to-great?

The Failure of a Franchise that Watch Dogs is
About eight years ago, Watch Dogs was presented to the world as a revolutionary title to lead the charge into the 8th generation, demonstrating both graphical excellence and levels of environmental interactivity not seen in AAA productions. It's eventual release in 2014 showed that it was anything but, having what should have been the most significant backlash that generation had it not been for multiple other studios vying for the prestigious title of Most Synonymous with Elephant Shit. So, Watch Dogs isn't the absolute worst as much as it should be, but despite all things it has not only gotten one sequel but TWO of them with their most recent one positioning itself similarly to the first as that same torchbearer to lead in the next PlayStation and Xbox into another seven or so years of mediocrity.
Why is Ubisoft so committed to developing this trashfire further? It failed as a GTA V competitor, it will fail as a Cyberpunk 2077 competitor, it's never seemed to be that popular among normalfags, it's arguably the game is the one that set the sour tone for the current consoles, so why are they so insistent to this idea when they refuse to do anything interesting with it?

Gamenight: S4Max Edition
We were playing and I totally forgot to let you fags know. Feel free to hop in if you want.
Download & Mirror:
Swordfags get the GASGASGAS
Saturday and Sunday we'll be running during the day, but I may have to switch off with somebody else.
The S4Max community runs its own server so you guys should be fine without me.
I'll make sure there is someone who can make the room if I'm out.
How to set up:
Just run the executable and it'll do its thing. Once you're in you can choose a username and password and then you'll be set.
See pic related for a guide on what to equip. Play some tutorials, there's one general tutorial (on the lobby page), and a tutorial for each weapon class (in the shop).
How do I play it
S4 League is a weaboo arena third-person-shooter with gimmicks. Mechanics are fairly straightforward run, jump, and shoot.
The only unusual mechanic is wall jumping. It's essential for moving quickly, and you'll get used to it from practice. It works by leaping toward a wall and then turning your screen in the direction you want to jump.
There are three specific game modes that we'll be playing:
There are also skills you can get such as a wall to block incoming fire, wings, a sweet grappling hook that others will call you a scrub for and some other stuff. There are also a few different weapon classes like shotguns, melee weapons with different properties, and healing guns. After you get the basics try some other guns out to see what you like.
>Battle Royale: Just kill people.
>Deathmatch: Just kill people but ignore half of them.
>Touchdown: The real game. Sportsball with guns.
The rules for touchdown aren't too complicated, it's just like an ordinary sport with a ball and a goal.
Here's a handy set of instructions for what you should be doing.
Guide to Offense:
>Step 1: Get the ball.
>Step 2: Run behind enemy lines.
>Step 3: Don't get killed. (Otherwise goto 1)
>Step 4: Score in the opponent's goal.
Guide to Defense:
>Step 1. Just kill people.
But specifically kill the person who has the ball.
They will have a giant beam of light over their head.
Use that to keep an eye on how much of a threat they are.
R: 32 / I: 10 /
Bad Implementations of Otherwise Good Mechanics
I don't think that most mechanics that are employed by games are inherently bad, but it is apparent that most developers have little concern as to how functional they are while in game. By implementation, I don't mean that the mechanic itself is flawed specifically or in a general sense, but the method of interacting with it or how its used or unused by developers. Hunger systems being nothing but burden, broken control schemes, anything that makes the game frustrating because you understand that it has the potential to be good.
A more specific example would be Starfox Zero, which uses both the television and Wii U gamepad to play with the television showing a third person view and the gamepad showing a first person view. The television reticle is offset for the purpose of forcing players to look at the gamepad to aim instead of adjusting missions in a way that it compliments both camera angles. It's purposefully broken in an attempt to create something that would otherwise be difficult to accomplish without a second screen.

Post 2 other games you really praise (but don't have to play currently).
#1. The first anon to post must explain why their choice of games are better.
#2. Of the 3 vidya games you play, they actually have to be games you play on a regular basis. NOT games you extol and say are good, but you don't actually ever play. Those can go in the 2nd category of the 2 games you praise.
#3. The anon who replies to your comment in criticism must post their 3 current games they actually play and their 2 praiseworthy games AND explain why their choice is better than your taste.
#4. Then AFTER that, the anon replying must RATE the taste with a 1-10 rating like 6/10 or something.
1. TES IV: Oblivion
Really large modding community and mostly nostalgiafag reasons behind why I play. I felt Skyrim was overrated and was too dark. Oblivion w/ mods is adds a ton of replayability. As for Morrowind/oldfags, it doesn't do it for me like Oblivion. I like Oblivion for its own peculiar charm
#2. Warcraft 3.
Honestly, anyone still buying other games when you could play Warcraft 3 is a fool. The custom games are where it's at. I've seen quite a few people playing Hearts of Iron and Paradox Games when you get the better 3D equivalent in Warcraft 3 w/o all the crap. Plus it is a much older game, so my garbage computer can handle it better
#3. SCP Secret Laboratory.
Fun multiplayer experience for free
#1. Timesplitters Future Perfect.
Still a game with many fond memories. It was probably underrated.
It was really enjoyable when I was a kiddo.

Bug Mario is a Paper Mario ripoff made because Nintendo refuses to make another Paper Mario RPG game and would probably fuck it up anyways if they tried. It came out around the tail end of last year and has had a demo out for a long while. While I'd say it's significantly shorter and less visually polished than Paper Mario, it makes up for it with gameplay. To differentiate itself from Paper Mario's combat the partner system is replaced with a three bug party where positioning, front, middle, or back, matters. The bug in front gets +1 attack, the back gets +1 defense, and there are a couple
badges medals that boost defense for the front or back. However, the order of your bugs cannot be changed, and they must be rotated circularly. There is no defending option, only "do nothing", unless you equip the badge medal for it, and there's only two of that badge. You can relay turns to other bugs, however for each extra attack they make in the same turn their attack is reduced by 1 and each bug can only relay once per turn. The party is clearly divided into a tank, attacker, and buff/debuffer, but you're not strictly limited to using them this way and badges medals can easily change your strategy. The first few enemies in the game are those that are most clearly ripped off from Paper Mario as they were made early on before the devs got more original. The seedling is clearly a goomba and has a headbonk attack; the jellyshroom is clearly a blooper and floats in the same way; the inichas is clearly a koopa, has a rolling attack, and can be flipped on it's back to lower it's defense. A difference you might notice to increase the games difficulty is that the Inichas flips back over and attacks in the same turn, unlike koopas who would waste a turn flailing.
There are some quality of life improvements from the Paper Mario games. The warps are centralized to one area, and after a while there will be a shortcut NPC that allows you warp from that central area to a few nearby areas you may frequent. You have a list of accepted quests so you don't forget them, and while many are acceptable from quest boards anywhere there are a bunch that are started without the quest boards. There is a boss rush accessible mid way through the game where you can fight all bosses beaten thus far and you can access the hardest versions of bosses through it even if you haven't chosen to play on the hardest difficulty. However you can only rush either mini-bosses or regular bosses. Sadly, there are only a couple unique rewards from it for beating a few bosses in a row, and after that it's all currency and no trophy items. The badge medal shops have an option to reroll the available medals instead of having to leave town to reroll them. Berries are capped at 999, but there is a bank where you can store up to 10000 berries. Interest accrues every half hour by 3% and 6% once you first reach 500 berries in the bank.
Fair warning, the game is publised by Dangen Entertainment. Dangen's co-founder once went on Resetera to lament the presence of loli in Japan after spending time working there, though I have no archive. Despite this, there's one moment in the post-game that has me convinced it's a lolicon undertone. The game is only $20. There was a link to the game in the bunker share thread, but the thread is gone now. The game, version 1.0.3b, is on the vola for now. It's fairly small, a little over 200MB, just like an actual Gamecube game and was made in Unity. The latest patch out a few days ago, 1.0.4, has several gameplay affecting bugfixes. Saves are easily transferable

Can you name a good linear FPS? What linear FPSs have you enjoyed? For some reason I'm actually having quite a bit of difficulty coming up with some.
Does this say something about the strength of base action mechanics in the genre?

TF2V GAME NIGHT PREPARATION THREAD: FROM THE ASHES EDITION
So. What happened with TF2V was frankly a shame - fags just stopped playing it because of /vg/ drama and (in part) because fags involved did not move out of discuck. Let's play some fucking videogames with what we have left.
>What is it?
TF2 but without hats or any other gay shit (there was a LOT of it) and up to Mann-conomy update. Updates fucked the game and introduced things beyond the scope of "up to Mann-conomy", which lead to anons fucking off.
>Why play it?
TF2 without hats is a gud game. FOR THIS OPERATION, WE'LL BE RUNNING STOCK ONLY UNTIL THINGS ARE FIXED - AND EVEN THEN STOCK ONLY IS A SUPERIOR WAY TO PLAY, SO WE'LL PLAY THAT MOST OF THE TIME
>Why not TF2 with stock-only plugin/TF2007/some other derivative?
TF2's filesize is around 22 GB at the time. TF2V is 4.6 GB. As for TF2007, it's made on Facepunch. Rather than entertaining a Facepunch mod (or whatever else, for that matter), let's try to salvage what we can from what used to be an 8/v/ project that we've had many good game nights with.
- game (4.6 gb)
More games next weekend; this thread is for server configuration, tech support questions and stocking up on micspam.
Also, keep in mind, my internet's shit and everyone will be getting ~400 ping if I'm going to be hosting. If any of you offers to host for us instead, that'd be great. That said, it'll still be a good time. Also, expect things to be more or less dead when starting out.

Sony had strong IPs that showed promise. Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Gravity Rush. All beloved franchises that people still play to this day. Now it's all theatrical games that are "experiences" about lesbians climbing walls. What happened?

it's ratchet and clank, best game is tod

Recent interview with the CEO Tommy Tallarico. http://archive.li/mLHb0
>The buttons light up. The gyroscope is working. You can see all the fun stuff there, the touch screen. The disc, which I don’t think you’ve seen working yet–a normal D-pad is eight positions. Up, down, left, right, and diagonals. We have 64 positions. We have pressure on it as well.
>We decided to go with a capacitive touch screen, which bumped our build and materials up. This is a resistive touch, but we’re going with the glass touch as well. It’s just more responsive.
>We’re appealing–the whole idea is to bring families together. We’re not necessarily appealing to the hardcore gamer. Our go-to-market strategy is to go after moms who have young kids.
>In regards to a home console, Xbox and PlayStation are more for teenagers. They start to get the Switch around eight, 10 years old. Even Roblox and Minecraft are seven, eight, nine. A lot of our strategy is, let’s also have games–yes, we have the retro reimagined stuff we’re doing. Yes, we have tons of sports and recreational games. Not only baseball, football, soccer, but cornhole and bowling and darts and pool(...) Tons of board games, whether it’s Yahtzee or Farkle or Wheel of Fortune or things like that.
>Let’s take a game like Texas Hold ‘Em for example, where everyone has their two cards on the controller and the flop is on the screen. This is the kind of stuff that’s never been before. What if you have dice in a Farkle game? You see the dice and shake it when it’s your turn. You throw it and it goes up on the screen. Every game we’re making is unique to our controller. They cannot be put on a PlayStation or Xbox or Switch or mobile.
>There’s going to be about 40 games at launch. Then every 10 to 14 days we’ll come out with one game at a time. We’re never going to release two games at once. Keep in mind, it’s a closed system. We’re going to be announcing, at E3, all of our licenses(...) Not only for kids, but for adults. There’s a lot of stuff that people are going to be delightfully surprised by.
>We’re launching in North America, Europe, and potentially the Middle East, all at the same time. That’s our plan right now. We’re also talking to Australia, that area. I was in China for a week. We met with the Chinese government, some big players over there, about potentially–over in China they’re very family-oriented. If you think we have problems over here with mobile screen time, over there it’s a whole other level. When we were talking to them about our solution, they flipped out. They loved it.
>We have about 35 people in-house. Last time we talked it was probably around 20 or so. We have more than 300 people in development working on games for us.
>We got $1 million from the Bavarian government over in Germany. That’s where our European home office is, in Nuremberg. They give us $1 million because they loved the idea and the concept so much. We have to spend that money on development in Germany. We’re working on seven games for that money. That gives you an idea–again, you’re talking about seven to 10 people working for nine months. Our budgets are $150,000, $200,000, maybe $250,000 on the high end. It’s a completely different business model.
>Everything on the system is exclusive. That doesn’t mean that–if we’re doing a game like our version of Breakout, it doesn’t mean there won’t be another Breakout. But our Breakout that we’re doing, that we’re paying for, that we’re designing, that we’re making for couch co-op, that we’re using our screen and gyroscope to do, that version cannot be played–not that it won’t be, but it can’t be. The way we’re designing all our games, it’s specific to this. You’ll either like it or not. A hardcore gamer might be turned off. A lot of people hated motion controls on the Wii, and a lot of people loved it.
>We’re going to stay in our lane. We know what we’re good at. We know what we can accomplish. We don’t feel that anyone else is doing it like we’re doing it.

Why is BethesTRASH still in fucking business?
>Fallout 76 is an utterly buggy mess on release with one of the advertised features of the game somehow able to crash servers consistently, so bad that some guy on his lonesome has encountered 1000+ bugs in it, the collector edition scamming and other associated scams and the absolutely horrid handling of their player base
>RAGE 2 was not only also a disgustingly buggy mess but a disgustingly dull shooter that makes Borderlands look better in comparison
>Nu-Wolfenstein who really should just have it's plugged pull at New Order at this point still keeps on shambling along for some god forsaken reason and get worse games every time somehow
Are Skyrim copies really just all it takes to keep this absolute garbage heap of a company afloat? They're EA in everything but name at this point.

R: 33 / I: 12 /
>open world for no reason
>ps3 era graphics
>pointless busywork out the ass
>buttons changed from xenoverse for no reason
>combat is even worse than xenoverse somehow
>dust and explosions constantly in your face, mashing and occassionally popping supers wins every fight
>no character creation, just revisit the dbz story for the hundredth time
>retarded skill tree that's completely locked down and offers no creativity/individuality
If you're not a DBZ fan don't get this game. The open world is empty, the combat is stale, and 90% of the game is padding. For an example of how the game is: there's a system called "Community" which is a menu board where you can place emblems to get things like "melee atk +4%" or "meal effect duration +50%". You get emblems by doing fetch sidequests for characters, and the game gives you several tutorials on how character friendship levels interact and putting some characters on the cooking board will give a bigger boost than if you put them on the z warrior board depending on what rank it is.
If that sounds like fun this game is for you. If you prefer fighting in a DBZ game give this one a miss.

The Mobile Menace
As phones are now powerful enough to be graphically comparable to early 7th generation games mixed with the 5G and streaming push, how likely is it that these devices will eclipse the traditional console and PC as not just the introduction, but as the next thing? There's been a push recently because of Apple Arcade and new peripherals for phones, but it might get bigger with some AAA release like Skyrim Mobile.
I theorize that the NWO companies want greater control of rare technology critical elements and avoid devices being stowed away never to be recycled, so they advertise attractive deferred payment plans and trade-ins. This won't be enough, though, so they'll reduce the number of enthusiasts by hiking the prices of computer hardware like GPUs, motherboards, et cetera to unaffordable levels. Hell, maybe they'd go as far as to manipulating the economy so game consoles and other unnecessary devices are out of the question.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and other mellow RPGs
I just got past Gregory for the first time and now I don't know what to do; everything just smashes my face in, every time I pick up even a little bit of loot I have to port crystal out to a vendor that can put my items away, I have so much stock of curatives I will never use, and all the progress paths have enemies that have as much health on them as the fucking dragon himself.
I'm at level 60 on hard mode, trying to play sorcerer so I can get skills to make mystic knight spell faster, also trying to get the hang of being a good caster so I can actually further myself as a CURAYZEE spellsword.

>What is this?
It's fucking Deus Ex, only the best fucking PC game ever made. You better have played this shit by now and if not, install it.
>There are better PvP shooters out there, though. Why this?
Because we're not doing PvP. This is co-op Deus Ex, like you've never played before.
>There's a co-op campaign?
No, this IS the campaign. From start to finish, we'll be trying to complete the game. There's no save system, but we can switch to different levels. If you've never played this game before, it is highly recommended that you don't join to avoid spoilers and such as it isn't fully supported, but if you're looking to replay the game in a completely unique way, come on and play.

Pirate Lolicatgirls Toaster Club XIV: Claw
Copy pasted from webcrawler Edition
Release date: 1997
Developer: Monolith Productions
Publisher: Monolith Productions
(Captain) Claw is a 2D platformer for the PC. It came out back in '97 and is known for it's high difficulty.
The game features 14 levels and 7 bosses (every 2nd level) and many different enemies. Every level is unique and has it's own beautiful style. If you manage to beat the game, there are many custom maps for you to play.
The methods of combat inculde sword, pistol, dynamite and a meme spell.
Where to get it
Legitfags: ebay, charity shops etc
Piratefags: Claw is an abandonware, which means you'll have to download it from here: http://kapitanpazur.piasta.pl/en/downloads.html
In the link above you'll find three installations:
Read and decide for yourself. I recommend the DVD version because the cinematics are cool.
>Don't be a jew, the score worths nothing if you are dead
>Nothing but sword works against bosses
>Save your HP for the boss fight
>Use meme claw to clear lines of enemies
>Maximize your powerups. You deal double damage, move faster and jump higher with the catnip powerup
>Custom maps can be downloaded from the site above
>Don't use cheats
I didn't have any issues and I use the DVD version.
If you have a problem running the game, make sure you start the game in compatibility mode.
If you have a problem with the framerate, use windowed mode.

Also note to avoid confusion that this pasta was filled out by an anon in a previous thread when nominating this game, which means any potentially wrong opinions, incorrect information, and shit taste expressed belong to that anon. If a better version of a game is available or bad advice was given in the OP, speak up in the thread. OP may have copied the pasta verbatim without finding more information about the game.

Hopes and dreams and worst nightmares for this?
I hope there is less pure desert than skyrim had snow.
Hope they don't try to rework combat into whatever todd thinks is trendy right now.
I'm really scared they might try go a voiced PC nararttive like FO4, which really ruined a lot of the enjoyment for the game for me.
Also, hopefully, todd doesn't force us to play as a nigger. Though it would be hilarious if he does.

Now that it's far enough post release we can avoid endless arguments about SJW politics/Vavra/funding irregularities let's have a discussion on what the game was actually like. Personally I thought it was solid but flawed, which explains why everyone stopped talking about it so quickly after release and the controversy died down. Also the lack of serious mods/poor moddability seems to have hurt it badly. I liked the save system.

Etrian Odyssey thread?
One of my favorite series that I recently discovered. Cleared EOI, II and III. Playing IV right now and it has some very welcome changes (Deep Forest Lores, the Item Codex finally listing where an item was found) but also some unwelcome ones like the casualized skill trees, less classes available at the beginning, and smaller dungeons. I think I preferred EOIII just barely but we'll see when I play further.
What do you think about the series?

AI War: Fleet Command general
SURVIVE AGAINST AI'S ONSLAUGHT AND FORMAT THEIR HARD DRIVE
AI War: Fleet Command is a mix of RTS, grand strategy and tower defense that takes place in a space setting. The objective is to defeat two AI's by conquering their homeworlds and simultaneously trying to NOT DIE as both AI's attempt to flood your planets with massive enemy fleets.
>Why play it?
AI opponents have a shared difficulty score that affects how hard it rapes players - the more it has, the more ships will come to invade with every wave, the more advanced they'll be, etc. It can be adjusted by not destroying certain AI structures, not letting AI destroy some of your structures and planning out conquests. The way difficulty works makes it more of a puzzle than a normal rts.
This game has a massive amount of expansions, which increases it's replay value massively. Last time we played it, it took 10 hours just to beat it on a planet count reduced from 80 to 60.
The AI's adapt and can figure out ways to fuck up your designated chokepoint if players let it do so. It has numerous difficulty settings - everything below 7 is easymodo, 7 is average, 8 is challenging, 9 is very
challenging and 10 is designed to be unwinnable. It also has different types related to it that can be set at the start of the game - Speed Racer AI's ship speed is cranked up, Fortress King has massive fuckoff fortresses on almost every planet, there are tons of those to choose from.
There are also Plots related to the contents of the game, such as Golems, Astro Trains et cetera. Just know that there is a lot of content to the game.
- main game (~300 mb)
- dlc (~650 mb)
- main game
WE'LL BE PLAYING GAMES WITH DLC, SO INSTALLING BOTH PACKAGES IS REQUIRED. CROSS-PLATFORM MULTIPLAYER WORKS
As they take a metric fuckton of time, we'll be playing on weekends to get things done. I will host the next game on Friday, at 4 PM EST.
You can doublecheck the time here - https://time.is/EST
- EST is NOT EDT.
The game supports up to 8 players co-op and has numerous ways to start out as:
Play the game how it's meant to be played originally - you control one Human Home Station and all things related to it. Make ships, turrets, conquer planets and contribute to the task of killing off AI's.
The glorified spectator mode. You can watch the others play the game and even control other players's units if they set them to shared control in the unit settings, but can't own any type of unit. The difficulty in this game also scales with player count, but this player doesn't count for the purpose of this increase. Best if you're new and don't trust yourself to not fuck things up.
Get a huge fuckoff starship in the place of a command station. Your task is to go into special wormholes on the enemy planets that no one else can access and fight ships from minor factions to acquire new ship and/or structure designs. You can level up and get better equipment for the starship, but for all intents and purposes you're treated as a helper when it comes to owning things, so you can't ever have a command station.
Get both the command station and the Champion starship. Because Champion players take so long to do anything with their wormholes and because having a Champion player makes AI send certain ships at you in between certain intervals of time
, it's not an upgrade at all. Play one of the three other roles instead.
GOOD LUCK AND REMEMBER, FIGHTERS > BOMBERS > MISSILE CARRIERS > FIGHTERS AND MAKE TURRETS TO NOT DIE

I'm late to the party on this one, I think, but there's probably still some discussion to be had about it. I finished Terminator: Resistance a couple of weeks ago and found it to be surprisingly fun -- or, at least, it would have been surprising if the nearly unanimous praise from anons was not the main reason I gave it a chance.
There's only a few issues I had with the game, and none of them were particularly major nor did they get in the way. The board-breaking mechanic was so sparsely used that I feel like it would have been just as well to get rid of it, for instance, and I don't think I ever tried using the pipe as a weapon on anything thanks to the extreme risk and comparative utility of even basic firearms. Similarly, it's awkward how defensive and offensive items are assigned to a single shared button instead of utilizing the entire row of number-keys like most games. It's a small price to pay for a genuinely fun FPS in this day and age, though.

FULLDERP Bunker: Dynamax Edition
What's this all about?
Fullderp is a game where one of us declares himself the champ and takes a ragtag team of six Pokémon assembled by anons into an online competitive Pokémon battling simulator.
To quote one of Showdown's mods...
>@MacChaeger: None of these people are youtubers
>@MacChaeger: They impersonate verlis to to gain notoriety and attract new members
>@MacChaeger: These people regularly trick others into getting locked
>@MacChaeger: this is the single most toxic group of players on PS
How does it work?
When the current champ calls "new champ", the first poster to claim it is our champ. The first six legal Pokémon suggested once champ has been claimed or "new team" has been called will be the team our champ uses to battle.
Suggesters are not to make multiple suggestions for a team unless 15 minutes have passed since their last suggestion, or unless the champ specifically asks for resuggests.
The champ will be battling in Gen 7 OU
unless he specifies otherwise.
Can I give the champ something?
Of course. If we've got a champ, feel free to come in and watch and give him something when he calls for a new team. No experience necessary, and everything's done in-browser.
Failure to follow the rules will result in IMPEACHMENT and/or BULLYING.
1. The champ cannot forfeit or intentionally throw a match.
2. The champ may not edit a set without the suggester's permission.
3. All Pokémon must be nicknamed.
4. The champ is not allowed to timer stall.
5. If someone resuggests before 15 minutes have passed since their last suggest, the champ must ignore it.
6. The champ should replace resuggests with fresh suggests that come in later.
7. Don't make the new thread until the old one is close to getting pruned, or is nearing the board's post limit.

Limits of Assumed Knowledge
While games might require a varying degree of attention and persistence, almost everything I've played has only really one requirement in order to understand what to do; language. Even so, it's probably possible to experiment through the majority of games with a language barrier reasonably well that aren't too dependent on words like RPGs.
This isn't a criticism of game design, but it's different with things like a series of textbooks, where you need to read one in order to understand the next. I'm curious to know if there are any games where it is imperative that you're knowledgeable about something that exists outside the game in order to progress within it. Something like the Grail scene from Indiana Jones, where it isn't really solved by cleverness, but by knowing that Jesus was a carpenter.

An interesting coincincedence
I've just realised that both the Tony Hawk Underground games and the NFS Underground games, while good, suffered from going over the top with their settings compared to the more grounded and consistent if lower on spectacle earlier games in their series. Also in both cases they tend to be the ones held up as the greatest in the series because they sold shifted significantly more copies than previous games aka Morrowind syndrome.
Clearly subtitling a game with Underground, a name that inherently sounds like a 13 year old's idea of cool, dooms it to this fate.

Although the Paladins were once loved and revered throughout the lands of Lordaeron, they have since fallen on hard times. The entire Order of the Silver Hand was disbanded for refusing to kill innocent townsfolk who were believed to be contaminated by the dreaded Undead plague. Disenfranchised and driven from their former homes, the Paladins still work selflessly to protect humanity from the gnawing jaws of evil. Empowered by the Light, these mighty warriors brandish both warhammer and holy fire in battle against all who would trample the meek and innocent.

Things that should be the Standard
Are there features, mechanics, and design philosophies that you feel almost every game should incorporate and if so, why?
"Immersive simulator" is a pretentious name, but it surprises me that more developers don't borrow from these games more, which successfully tell linear stories and are more satisfying because of how good the level design is despite having worse gameplay than more recent games. Every developer should be forced to sit down and play Deus Ex until they understand how good it is and re-evaluate how open-ended they want things, whether it's opening up levels or reducing their scope in favor of centralizing the content more. I'm convinced if there was a single improvement that could be made in the industry, this would be the most important.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
If anyone here hasn't played this game, you are missing out on a fucking masterpiece. For those of you who do play this game, let's talk strategy a bit. Or mechanics. Could someone explain to me how exactly tech beelining works? It's hard to make the techs you want appear on the selection screen even if you have all the prereqs.
And just for the sake of spurring some conversation, what factions have you been messing around with and what do you think of them? Been messing with Peacekeepers and despite their lackluster appearance they are a surprisingly comfortable faction to play as. You can ignore drone problems pretty easily, bigger bases makes a major difference if you go former crazy and make bases that grow fast, and they are really good at getting golden ages if you rush a fast Human Genome Project. Peacekeepers pretty much feels like a faction with no real weaknesses and a surprising amount of hidden strengths, between planetary governorship, bigger bases, lower psych needs, and easy golden ages.

There was not a CK3 thread. There is now. So, the Deus Vult bullshit aside, there is so much wrong with this game. The 3D models... are 3D. On top of that, they're actually worse than Imperator. The worst part is the events seem to have replaced 2D, hand-drawn art with the 3D models just standing in place.
I don't understand how this happened. Even Imperator still had hand-drawn art for the events. The one possible "excuse" is "hey these are placeholder screenshots", but I'm old enough to know that excuse is almost always bullshit.
It's being developed for consoles, so I guess all the streamlining makes sense from that perspective, but I'm still surprised. I expect nothing from modern Paradox, but I'm still somehow disappointed, they somehow sunk even lower than I expected from them.
The only thing that looks good is the map, and that was also the bright spot in Imperator, so they just ported that over.
I'm getting serious "copy of Total War game from 5 years ago" vibes from the overall aesthetic.

Best of 2019
Christmas is fast approaching which means vidya time. Either free time from work or parents buying you a game to unwrap. This thread is to discuss the best of 2019. What new or re-releases (GOTY editions) are worth picking up to play this winter.
Don't be a fag and whine all vidya is now shit or how you hate someone else's game suggestions. It's 2019 we're not seeing a whole lot of great games either way. Best is relative.
DMC5 gets a heavy recommendation if you enjoyed DMC3 and 4. It's pretty and plays like a dream. My only real complain it all the nostalgia bait. It leans a bit too heavy on the past but does enough good new stuff to be forgiven. It's one of the best games of the year that delivers on all fronts. And it's the only DMC game to ever feel complete and not missing half it's content.

Digital-only Clothing inspired by Fortnite now a thing
>Earlier this year Richard Ma, the chief executive of San Francisco-based security company Quantstamp, spent $9,500 (£7,500) on a dress for his wife.
>That is a lot of money for a dress, particularly when it does not exist, at least not in a physical form.Instead it was a digital dress, designed by fashion house The Fabricant, rendered on to an image of Richard's wife, Mary Ren, which can then be used on social media.
>"It's definitely very expensive, but it's also like an investment," Mr Ma says. He explains that he and his wife don't usually buy expensive clothing, but he wanted this piece because he thinks it has long-term value. "In 10 years time everybody will be 'wearing' digital fashion. It's a unique memento. It's a sign of the times." Ms Ren has shared the image on her personal Facebook page, and via WeChat, but opted not to post it on a more public platform.
>Another fashion house designing for the digital space is Carlings. The Scandinavian company released a digital street wear collection, starting at around £9 ($11), last October. It "sold out" within a month.
>"It sounds kinda stupid to say we 'sold out', which is theoretically impossible when you work with a (((digital collection))) because you can create as many as you want," explains Ronny Mikalsen, Carlings' brand director. "We had set a limit on the amount of products we were going to produce to make it a bit more special.
>Being digital-only allows designers to create items that can push boundaries of extravagance or possibilities. "You wouldn't buy a white t-shirt digitally, right? Because it makes no sense showing it off. So it has to be something that you really either want to show off, or an item that you wouldn't dare to buy physically, or you couldn't afford to buy physically." Carlings' digital collection was produced as part of a marketing campaign for their real, physical products. But the firm thinks the concept has potential - a second line of digital garments is planned for late 2019.
>The Fabricant releases new, free digital clothes on its website every month, but consumers need the skills, and software, to blend the items with their own pictures. This also means the company has to find another way to make money until digital fashion becomes more popular. We make our money by servicing fashion brands and retailers with their marketing needs, selling tools, and creating content that uses that aesthetic language of digital fashion," says The Fabricant founder Kerry Murphy. It is not entirely clear who is buying the digital garments from Carlings, or downloading clothes from The Fabricant.
>Mr Mikalsen says Carlings has sold between 200-250 digital pieces, but a search to find them on Instagram only resulted in four people who independently purchased from the collection and had no involvement with the company. However, some of the those clothes might have only been shared privately. Amber Jae Slooten, a co-founder and designer at The Fabricant, concedes it is mainly industry professionals, who use the CLO 3D software, that are downloading their clothes. "But it's also just people are very curious to see what the files look like. People just want to own the thing, especially since that one dress sold for $9,500."
>Marshal Cohen, chief retail analyst at market research company NPD Group, calls the emergence of digital fashion an "amazing phenomenon", but is yet to be convinced about its long-term impact. "Do I believe it's going to be something huge and stay forever? No." He says the technology works for people who want the perfect image. "If you don't like what you're wearing, but you love where you are, you now have the ability to transition your wardrobe, and digitally enhance the photograph to make it look like you're wearing the latest and greatest."

"I played it on youtube"
So I was forced into a conversation about video games with a normalfag at work, and you know how it is, you have to be able to blend in with them, so here I was conversing, trying to steer the conversation away from discussing the "deep complexities" of Last of Soy and such, but then he said this phrase about some game "I played it on youtube, didn't like it". Is... Is this what I think it is? Is this something that normalfags do now? They watch a walkthrough on jewtube and consider that as a game beat? If he just said "I watched it on youtube", that's bad enough but that I can understand, but the way he said "played it on youtube" made it sound as if this is some new trend they have going on, like they consider that either a viable alternative to actually playing the game or a hip new way to do it.
I guess all the talk about them wanting to remove gameplay from games isn't just a meme and this is the next evolution of gayming.

Also arcade game general I guess. I'll upload more dumps as I can. Only about 1/4th of the way through them.

Whenever this game got brought up on 8/v/, it was one of the few games I'd ever see referred to as "too long" and "exhausting". But how does Julayworld /v/ feel about it?

Who's interested in a Soul Calibur 2 tournament?
Some anons were interested in doing this last week so I'm seeing if there are enough to make a small bracket. We'd be playing the Gamecube version on the Dolphin emulator in a double elimination tournament.

I'm sure that /pol/ would love to play as neocon Gewt Ningrich to shoot down some liberal hippies to live out their far-right fantasies.

Licensed vidya has an unfairly negative reputation. At least until the 7th gen you'd have good odds it'd be average with a surprising number of gems in there. Hit and Run is probably only 7/10 since it gets a bit repetitive but it's at least fun. If you want to play it now make sure and check pcgamingwiki for the mods that help with widescreen and shit.

So how are the Crash and Spyro remakes compared with the originals?
I digged both of those series back in the day. Are the games worth buying for nostalgia's sake, if nothing else?

I'm trying to learn gbdev and this is what I accomplished this weekend. I am trying to do it in assembly, and at the end i realized I needed some method to keep state, specifically so I can do collision detection and event handling. The message box and font actually work (the sadly are only activated when I press the start button) and I am trying to write everything from scratch. I also need to figure out at some point how to load maps so my arrow sprite (who changes direction when the dpad is used) can go outside of his little cage.

Finished this in around an hour and a half.
First thing you'll notice is that the sprites look nothing like the characters in the movie. Manny looks like some downs syndrome nupokemon, or a character in a manga that is murderously insane. Not that it matters because the game has nothing to do with the movie. Some games try to give you that movie feel but this was a clear case of cheap movie-title cashgrab. The story is told through extremely low resolution images of the movie. If I hadn't seen the movie several times and purchased it on DVD I would have no clue what is happening.
Hitboxes are DS2 retarded. Almost every jump is a yolo that has you crossing your fingers and praying you don't have to play the rest of the checkpoint again. There are basically no aesthetic changes in levels, or at least none I noticed apart from slight palette tweaks. The bosses were mildly fun but were more aspergers-ridden than Greta Thunberg and followed an OCD pattern that never took notice of where the player was.
There are no words in this game. All the tutorial instructions are relayed to you with signs that are somehow less coherent than caveman paintings, but since the GBA has like four buttons it's easy to figure out what does what. You get to play as both Manny and Sid though, if that was going to affect your purchasing decision.

Games about WEED
WE LOVE THE WEED
WEED IS MAGICAL
WEED IS POWER
W E E D
or other drugs if you like them
What are some games that involve the use of drugs? Postal 2 allows you to smoke from a pipe that cranks your health up to 125, but damages you 30 points after some minutes. Then there was GTA 3 I guess it was, that allowed you to go in slow-mo if you touched a drug/pill circle.
Then there's NARC, you play as a power ranger and end up beating the shit out of clowns that shoot needles that stun at you, hobos and burn down farms of marihuana.
And then there's the shitty Far Cry 3 sequence where you go through a hall by eating shrooms.
Let's talk about games that involve drugs

So just finished this in around 8 hours, here's an overview and a recommendation.
>Big fucking levels made with the Build Engine
>Secrets are actually secrets instead of faux "deviate from the path and get a secret" bullshit, they're actually hard to find
>Weapon and enemy variety is disappointing but all weapons feel great and the enemy and shooting feedback feel great
>Beautiful use of sprites and voxels, the guys who did it know what the fuck they're doing
>Grenade launcher and shotgun enemy use the same sprite though it's recolored, the issue here is that the recolor is brown instead of black and you usually can't distinguish the two at distance and they also don't have unique voice lines, this means you'll get mixed up when ambushed or fighting them
>Over reliance on headcrab tier enemies on the last levels which gets annoying fast
>Last levels become a blur due to being lab complex/sewer/cave system type stuff some really good, others really fucking generic, some really feels like padding
>Bosses are alright but unfortunately you can't their their weapons out of all of them like the first one which was disappointing and some minibosses are better and harder than said bosses
>Final boss is alright and actually challenging
>Performance is all over the place due to being made in eDuke32 and pushing it's limits
>Music is some really good techno
>One liners are pretty meh though some click
>Some good references without going full reddit tier meta
I think it's worth a playtrough, it's not better than Duke but it's on the same tier with Shadow Warrior
I'm missing tons of stuff so please ask away.

Reposting from The Bakery
>There is currently a piece of legislation called the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act
>This act would create an unappealable "court" that could issue fines of up to 30,000 dollars without having to prove damages
>The 30,000 dollar limit would not be set in stone as the Copyright Office would be able to increase it without oversight
>Pirates could get his with a 30,000 dollar fine with no way to appeal the decision
>The Act would allow Matt Furie to fine people for posting Pepe derived images and you can be damn sure he would

Enviromental station alpha
one of the best games I've played in a long time. Once you get past the graphics it really takes off on the gameplay side of things. And the end game content is some of the best I've ever seen, I'm going to skirt round everything not to spoil anything. It's a solid 8/10.

Coolest monsters in vidya
What's some of the best monster designs in vidya? Something that either makes for a very well designed fight or just looks great.
<Don't post your monster girl fap bait shit. That's got nothing to do with games and there's other boards for that.
